Malwa College

known as Malwa Training College, Ludhiana, was established by the Khalsa Dewan, Ludhiana, in pursuance of its aims of promoting education facilities for all, in general, and for the rural Punjab, in particular. The College of Education is one of the six Educational institutions being run by the Khalsa Dewan. the other five being :

1. Khasla College for Women, established in1959.
2. Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, established in 1907.
3. Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, established in 1940.
4. Malwa Institute of Professional Studies and Services, estlablised in 1995.
5. Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology for Women, established in 2000.

Khalsa Dewan institutions are now managed by independent managing committees and are patronized by the Khalsa Dewan, Ludhiana, Which is a prominent Educational Organization in this region of the state of Punjab and is represented by people have nurtured and given shape of the Dewan for nearly one century.

The history of the College goes back to the year 1955 when India, particularly the state of Punjab, was making efforts to carry education to every village, not even represented on its educational map. There was an urgent need to open a teacher training college which would cater to education needs of rural Punjab, which in turn led to the establishment of this college. The main purpose of starting this college was to help the state in meeting the growing need of properly qualified and efficient teachers, a need which was urgently felt in the wake of progressive educational policies of the state of Punjab.

Ever since its inception, the college has served the cause of women education and contributed its big share of providing qualified women teachers, a promise that still remains to be realized completely. It is heartening to note that although situated in an urban environment, the college has always drawn its large share of graduates from the rural areas of the state, Malwa Central College of Education for Women remains the object of pride for the people of the state, in general, and those of Ludhiana district, in particular. The College offers B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses. It is permanently affiliated to Punjab University, Chandigarh and National Council of Teacher Education and is covered under section 2(F) and 12(b) of University Grants commission. The college has the honour of being assessed and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore.

Towards This Mission

With this aim in mind the college is successfully running Degree Courses on 22 subjects both Honours and General, two Vocational / Major Courses, five Post Graduate Courses (self sponsored) in Microbiology, Electronic Science, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science and three Distant Learning centres. The growing demands of the job market have ed this college to introduce the study of the comparatively modern subjects. However, the college is equally keen in simultaneous teaching of the traditional subjects. Moreover, professional course like BBA is also operational.
The mode of Distance Education has received a great impetus in this area through the Netaji Subhas Open University Study Centre, Indira Gandhi National Open University and a Post Graduate Distance Learning Programme on four subjects viz, Bengali, English, History and Education under DODL of Kalyani University.
There is scope to study computer science in the college at three different levels. For students wanting to master the subject the college offers Computer Science Honours; for those who would learn computer Science as an auxiliary, vocational discipline, the college has an EGTS course (Employment Generation Training Scheme sanctioned and funded by the Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India). Over and above the Institute of Computer Engineers (India) runs a computer centre named ‘A.P.C. College Computer Centre’ for all categories of students from inside and outside the institution. The courses here are tailor-made to meet the requirements of enterprising boys and girls.
So, the intention of the college is to harmonize the traditional and the experimental.
